
Stephanie Saywell (she/her) is a NYC-based choreographer, performer, clown, dramaturg, devised-theatre maker, and published poet. She holds a Certificate of Completion from the Dell' Arte International School of Physical Theatre's Professional Training Program, plus a BA in Dance and a BA in Written Arts from Bard College. In addition to apprenticing for and dancing repertory by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, Saywell has had the pleasure of performing for Arthur Avilés, Paul Matteson, Peter Kyle, Peggy Florin, Sharleen Chidiac, Witness Relocation, Sam Asa Pratt, Ainesh Madan, and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is a graduate of Doug Varone's DEVICES choreography mentorship program and a recipient of both the Ana Itelman Prize for Choreography and the Streb GO! Commissioning Program for Emerging Artists. Her work has been shown at Streb Lab for Action Mechanics, New York Live Arts, Gibney Dance, Movement Research, All Over Westbeth, Triskelion Arts, Mark Morris Dance Center, Green Space, Actors Fund Arts Center, BAAD!, Wild Project, RECESS, and Bard College. She has done dramaturgy for works by Hallie Chametzky and Ainesh Madan.
Saywell has studied poetry under the tutelage of Buddy Wakefield, Megan Falley, Ann Lauterbach, and Michael Ives, and short fiction under Paul LaFarge. She is a Teaching Assistant for Writers Anonymous, a poetry workshop led by Buddy Wakefield. Her writing has been published by Muzzle Magazine, The Missouri Review, Soundings East, Palette Poetry, Gnashing Teeth Publishing, Anti-Heroin Chic, and Ink & Letters. She is the 2025 recipient of the Claire Keyes Poetry Award, judged by Shangyang Fang.
A 200hr Yoga Teacher through RYS Yoga to the People, Saywell completed an apprenticeship with YttP in 2018 teaching power vinyasa and heated power vinyasa. She is available for group and private classes.
